School started today for our household ... and can I just say, I am not ready...for so many reasons. Usually, summer means a more relaxed schedule for us, allowing us some time to unwind. This summer seemed to fly by ... so fast! Now it's back to the daily grind, we will adjust and embrace the new routine but I do just wish things would slow down a bit. It seems just like yesterday that my youngest started kindergarten and now he is in the middle of high school already...and with just two years left...I selfishly want them to crawl by so I can keep him close just a little longer.
On the business side of things - things have been busy ... from maternity to cake smash to high school seniors to family, baby and newborn photography. Inside and outside of the studio we have been hopping!

This baby girl visited the studio for her 4 month milestone photo shoot. We are always giddy to see our little baby portrait planners return to the studio and to see how they have grown!
Wide awake and completely calm and alert is ho she arrived, she shared plenty of smiles with us, which we will share soon, but I love this little baby gaze. The baby gaze is actually a look I always try to capture. It's signature to the first months of baby's development and defines the beginning of their stage of curiosity where they are visualizing things with curiosity. The end result is a sweet, precious capture I like to call the baby gaze.

She is like a ray of sunshine! I have had the honor of photographing this sweet girl for many years now. I love when clients return year after year, it helps children build a level of comfort with the photographer and that makes all the difference.
During this photo shoot, this sweet girl and I giggled more than anything because she was comfortable with me. She knows me and I know her ... I know how to get the expressions I am looking for because I know what makes her giggle. :)
If there is one thing I could suggest for family photography or child photography, it is to work with the same photographer, it really builds the comfort level during photo shoots for children and family members.

We met this beautiful high school senior, class of 2019, for her custom styled senior portrait photo shoot. She is the sweetest!
I love when we have the opportunity to highlight high school seniors. The senior year is a special season of life, one to be treasured with wonderful memories. We always strive to make each portrait session special, focusing on the unique personality and style of each senior. We worked through 5 wardrobe changes and captured a variety of backgrounds, but this dress and this portrait is one of her very favorites.
I look forward to seeing what the future holds for this upcoming graduate!

One thing we have learned over the past 9 years of photographing babies, every baby is different. We mentor rising photographers and I guide them through the process of photographing babies. Some babies love to be swaddled, other love to be bare, so love bonnets, others not so much ... each baby has completely different likes and dislikes.
Usually when I photograph twins, even if identical, you will see the individual personalities of each baby. One may be sleepy while the other is wide awake. One may like props, one not so much. The important thing with babies is to let them lead the way. I always have a plan for every portrait session, but I learned long ago when working with babies and children, that often the plan has to adapt to the individual baby or child.
This sweet baby girl is the perfect example of adaptation. My plan was a lacey swaddle with this textured bonnet. She cuddled up so sweetly in the swaddle and all she really wanted was her little hand out of the swaddle and near her face, so we let her have her way and it made for the sweetest capture.
